Bulgaria finds one-fifth of worlds heroin seizures.

Sofia Echo

Bulgarian customs officers seized 19 per cent of the global total of 10 tonnes of heroin that was confiscated in 2000, the Finance Ministry announced on Monday.

This information was revealed during last Fridays Brussels meeting of Subcommittee 8 a joint body of Bulgaria and the European Unions Enlargement Committee, which deals with taxes, customs, drug trafficking, money laundering, and financial control.

Deadline danger for National Movement Simeon II.

Sofia Echo

Simeon Saxe-Coburg's new political formation is in danger of missing the registration deadline required to enter the elections. The Sofia City Court scheduled his registration hearing for April 25, one week prior to the deadline.

If his party is successfully registered on April 25, it is still subject to an appeal, which could further delay the process. To be official, it is also required that the registration of the party be published in the State Gazette, a process which could take up to seven days. The exiled king's lawyers have filed a motion for the hearing to be moved up to an earlier date - this decision is expected to come on Monday.

In the event that Saxe-Coburg's party fails to register in time, he still has the option of using the registration of an existing party, a move which could require compromise and nomination list sharing on his part.
